Mulled Apple Cider

Yield: APPROXIMATELY 4 1/2 QUARTS

Cook Time: 30 min

Ingredients:

  • 4 to 5 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon whole allspice
  • Several anise star pods (hint of licorice)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar OR 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 apple, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 gallon apple cider
  • Brandy, Rum, Cinnamon Schnapps, Vodka, or Whiskey

Directions:

  1. Place all spices onto a double thickness of cheesecloth.
  2. Add spices to the apple cider.
  3. Bring mixture to just under the boiling point.
  4. Reduce heat to low.
  5. Simmer for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat.
  7. Discard the spice bag.
  8. Add alcohol.
  9. Pour into mugs.
  10. Garnish with whole cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, anise star pod, thinly sliced apples and tiny Seckel pear.
